A slippery, Bipartisan Road to Tyranny

ImageI was a Godless heathen when I was against the Patriot Act.  At least, that was the opinion of my right-winging Republican friends.  The same people thought I was as paranoid as could be when I was against the Department of Homeland Security.  Why, these things were necessary to protect us against the Islamists who wanted to kill us, I was told.  Besides, Bush would never turn these things against Americans.  He’s a good American, I was told.  Do “good Americans” build tools of national destruction to tyrants, or are they simply not-so-good Americans, doing their master’s bidding.  By the way, we citizens are not the masters of  these politicians.

You have to wonder why the Department of Homeland security would be needing riot gear.  Then again, you’d also have to wonder why DHS conducts surveillance operations at Tea Party protests.

All this, and the only ones who are named out as threats to national security are the sort of people who probably bother reading my rants.
